Other Recommended Reading Part 1
This week in other recommended reading I mostly got acquainted with Nick Herbert’s book Quantum Reality. In summary, Herbert observes that while Newtonian Physics gave us the image or metaphor of a clock for the universe, Quantum Mechanics has failed to give us a single explanatory image for how the universe works, how reality works, that does justice to our knowledge. Herbert explores several images and interpretations of Quantum Mechanics put forward by physicists and weighs each of these interpretations, making heavy use of Bell’s Theorem which - according to him - puts constraints on any model of reality. According to Herbert, Bell’s Theorem effectively mandates that any model of reality be non-local, with events influenced by other events that are arbitrarily far way.
